Battery powered LED mod! (Batteries to AC Power) #1
So I have these battery powered LEDs for bicycle wheels, which I had purchased for some led overhead lighting of my battle-station.

However, they take 3 AAs and last 48 hours according to the box. That just want gonna cut it, so I decided to make them run off a power adapter.

The first step was to determine the amount of power the LEDs were using, and find an appropriate power supply.
3 AAs = 1.5v x 3 = 4.5v
So 3 AA is 4.5 volts DC. Amps is less important, as most power adapters, if they say, for example, 1 Amp, they are rated up to that amount.
So I went on amazon and found this power supply, which was plenty for what I needed:

Take note of the measurements they provided, as that was important.
Next. I needed to find a power jack to solder in.

Remember the measurements of the power supply I mentioned? Thats for the barrel connector I purchased here. There's a ton of different sizes.
With that sorted, it was time to figure out how to wire the jack into the LEDs power box. I began disassembly:

Opening it up further, I noticed a switch and a resistor. (a regulator probably would have been a better choice here, but considering the price of this device, I'm not surprised they used a resistor) Good. The resistor actually makes my life easier. (Unless you really over-volt them, they will do a decent job at lowering the voltage.)

Time to solder some wires onto the power jack, and run a few tests. After a bit of trial and error. LIGHT!

I cut a hole for the jack, and soldered it all up.

One last bench test now that its all closed up:

Everything looks good. Last, I hanged up the LEDs, and plugged em in, turned off my lights, and pat myself on the back for a job well done.

Simple, cheap, and easy. Nothing like doing it yourself.
