Like every vaccine, there are reported side effects in miniscule number of cases. Severe side effects like that of blood clots were reported in a very small percentage of vaccinated people. But further studies did not establish any concrete evidence. Hence the ban is removed and AstraZeneca now claims even better efficacy than some other popular vaccines.

Does anyone else find it a curious coincidence that the only non profit vaccine in circulation is the one with the issues and being suspended?

AstraZeneca has issues with blood clots on few vaccinated persons. It is a serious issue and authorities have rightly suspended its use until further studies are made. I believe AstraZeneca, renamed covishield is still used in many asian countries and the side effects there are almost nil.
