Are EVGA GTX 1070 & 1080's Catching Fire? #1
Short answer: No.
Long answer: Sort of.

If if you own a ACX 3.0 card, you may have heard about the thermal issues that have popped up the the past few weeks. But should you be worried? Not really.

EVGA GeForce GTX 1080/1070 PWM Operating Temperature Update

Recently, it was reported from several sources, that the EVGA GeForce GTX 1080 FTW PWM and memory temperature is running warmer than expected during Furmark (an extreme stress utility).

EVGA has investigated these reports and after extensive testing, below are our findings:

On ACX 3.0, EVGA focused on GPU temperature and the lowest acoustic levels possible. Running Furmark, the GPU is around 70C +/- and the fan speed is running approximately 30% duty cycle or lower.
However, during recent testing, the thermal temperature of the PWM and memory, in extreme circumstances, was marginally within spec and needed to be addressed.

Conclusion: EVGA offers full warranty support on its products, with cross-ship RMA*, and stands behind its products and commitment to our customers.

So unless you have gone completely crazy and are doing excessive overclocking, there is very little to worry about.

Never heard about this with the Titans. That being said, doesn't sound like such a huge risk. if you have decent cooling.

I've never seen mine go over 75c. Even so, I've ordered the new thermal pads, just in case.

I don't own a GTX-1080 but a different Nvidia card. When I game my laptop gets so hot, it's abnormal. It gets 105°C, after heating for 5 more degrees it shuts down. It gets so hot after only a hour of gameplay or something. Probably way too much dust in the fans.

Normally these cards should be able to handle much more heat though, since the price of the 1080 is way higher than what I have.

Disassemble it and attack it with air duster. I've had this happen on a couple laptops. Gunked fans can raise the temps significantly. Biggrin

Imagine your computer all of a sudden catching fire.

That would be the scariest shit. I have a 970.

It would be fun while it lasts.

They most certainly have a manufacturing issue and right now I would not recommend getting those ca rds for sure, as it's not worth taking the risk of having to send it n for an RMA if it messes up. Better option would be just to get an ASUS / Gigabyte or MSI c ard, unless you know that the certain shop carries the new stock that are fixed against the issue.
