Anyone feel alone? 05-06-2013, 07:04 AM
#1
I have often felt alone growing up and also now. I came to isolate myself since a young age, and it's been a habit for me for pretty much all of my life. The problem comes when you feel unable to do anything about it, and the longer you stay shut away from social interaction, the harder it becomes to rejoin any sort of social community. I have problems simply coming up with ideas to make myself less isolated and to be more a part of society, I guess the area in which you live plays a big role here.

I've always lived my life as a loner, although at present I am starting to blend in with my friends. From elementary, high school, and even through college, I have always been regarded as inferior due to my wearing eyeglasses. I managed to remove these glasses in 2005 when I underwent eye correction surgery. In addition, I also belonged to an indigenous religious organization until I left that group in 2010. Since then I've felt a sense of enlightenment and liberation when I left that group as I'm more socially open now, though my being a loner still remains.

I sorta liked to be alone once I started high school. I was never that way but after high school I just started to like my own space here and there.

Unfortunately I love being social, I think that I'd be able to do a lot more productive things with myself if I didn't care as much about my social life as I do so consider yourself lucky.

I have felt alone for a really long time. Since I was a little kid but I didn't think nothing of it then. Around the 7th grade is when I started noticing it more. I just felt like I couldn't talk to anyone and they didn't understand me. It always felt as if everyone wasn't listening and just waiting for their turn to speak. I did embrace being lonely though. I like it now because it is always nice having some peace and quiet while listening to music or just day dreaming. I mean eventually I will probably not be that lonely anymore but for now it isn't the biggest issue I am facing.

Feeling alone in this society can be normal. So many people hate and treat each other terrible. My advice is think back to the ones who treated you good. And find them, those are the ones who you want to try and spend time with or go and see. But in the end it all takes effort on your part and how much you don't want to be alone. I don't mean to sound shallow, but it does take effort.

I'm currently suffering from Anxiety/Depression and I don't have very many friends IRL, but my family really helps me out. I've never really been a social person.
