Inuyasha and Fairy tale would be a great start with such deep characters and strong story.

I would definitely recommend Dragon Ball Z if you are interested in combat anime, gets us jacked up with macho dialogues and action. Cool

Would Recommend Bleach, Law of Ueki, Getbackers and Inuyasha. These are my all time favourites.
