MAL synopsis: Gankutsuou is an anime loosely based on the novel The Count of Monte Cristo by Alexandre Dumas. It tells the story of Albert Morcerf, a young aristocrat who happens to befriend a wealthy nobleman, The Count of Monte Cristo. Fascinated by the Count's charm, Albert invites him to meet his friends and family, all of whom happen to be part of the upper class society of Paris, France. Unfortunately, little does Albert realize that the Count has ulterior motives in mind.

I honestly can't remember how I came across this awesome anime, but I can definitely say that it's one heck of a journey. It's not very cheerful though, in case that's an issue for you. I very much recommend this, full of plot twists and fascinating characters. Oh and the image is probably not the best representation of the show but I thought it was cute so yeah ~~~

Indeed, I read the book prior to watching the anime and loved it. And then the anime was even better. The soundtrack and art style certainly compliment the story in my opinion.

Very thoughtful of you to read an anime recommendation thread when you apparently consider anime disgusting. But maybe you'll try an episode and see a better side to Japanese animation? ~

Indeed, I read the book prior to watching the anime and loved it. And then the anime was even better. The soundtrack and art style certainly compliment the story in my opinion.

I should warn you, pvnk is a bit of a "class clown" around here. He often posts on anime related threads, just to inform anime fans that he dislikes anime or thinks it's lame. The regulars know not to take him seriously, but I figured I'd let you know as it will likely happen again.

On topic: This looks pretty interesting. I'm definitely going to try it out if anything. While I'm not usually a fan of weird designs like that in the picture you shared, I am immediately drawn to anything that has gustav klimt-like images in it (did anyone else notice that...?).
