3 Potentially Habitable Planets & TRAPPIST-1 #1
Apparently they found 3 potentially habitable planets orbiting a dwarf star (named TRAPPIST-1) 40 light-years away. Within a few years, they'll have an even clearer picture of what comprises their atmospheres (if present). This will give them an idea of whether or not life could exist there.

For the first time, researchers have discovered three potentially habitable, Earth-like worlds orbiting an ultracool dwarf star 40 light-years away in another star system, according to a study published in the journal Nature.

The ultracool dwarf star, known as TRAPPIST-1, isn't the kind of star scientists expected to be a hub for planets. It's at the end of the range for what classifies as a star: half the temperature and a tenth the mass of the sun. TRAPPIST-1 is red, barely larger than Jupiter and too dim to be seen with the naked eye or even amateur telescopes from Earth.

Well that's damn pretty significant.
Too bad NASA will be defunded some more in the next few years.

I love reading content of this nature. I had no Idea of this until now.

It makes you wonder just how much they don't know, and what will be known (and possibly put Into practice) In 100 years from now.

Completly agree, even though the rate of discovery is significant this is something alot more, imagine 100 more years, man I'd love to be alive then.

This is so exciting to watch this. Really.. what a time to be alive.

For billions of years we have not even imagined colonizing another planet. Hell, we've only just recently stepped foot on one that isn't our own. Now the time is here, and progression is being done.. WHILE WE'RE HERE. I often think of this, and it always makes me feel so happy that we are living in the time that we are. Want something to eat but don't feel like getting up? Order a delivery. Want almost anything but don't feel like going to the store? Online has you covered bro. Want to talk to someone ACROSS THE ENTIRE EARTH? A couple simple clicks and BAM. Instant voice and live feed of them. The next generation will be so spoiled.. and it's only getting better. With drones, VR, and many various future-like tech coming out will definitely be the pinnacle of a lot of the things humans have worked billions of years for. We were truly born in the golden age. I really mean it. Born with asthma? 1778 has you dude. Have a headache? 1950s have you my man (referring to Ibuprofen). Want to know if it'll be raining today? One push of a button and you're informed amigo. We have an almost infinite source of knowledge literally at our fingertips.

The world has always (and always will) have core problems. But in the last 100 years, I feel like we've made a lot more progress than ever before. I've always heard the phrase "We never know what the future holds". In the next 100 years, I feel like we might put that phrase to rest. Because we will either extinguish all of the extinguishable problems in the world, or build a machine that can.

2016 mother fucker, we in this thang.

It's worth noting that our view is that of the dwarf star 40 years ago.

That's pretty cool.
Amazing to think that one day we (maybe) can actually travel there.

Honestly, this is neat but I don't think it will matter. Within the next few years, shit is going to hit the fan. Not even a fan like the engine on a 747. And it's Woolly Mammoth shit. We have a lot of problems here internally and if we expect to be starting life on another planet, we should probably get our shit together here first.

Why is this worth noting?

Things may not be the same, if we look again in another 40.
