I fried a 128gb flash drive trying to do it.feelsgoodman RIP flash drive, that sucks. I'm gonna poke around for some shitty USBs to test this on when I get off work, I'll keep you guys posted. RE: [Arch] Install on USB? - Inori - 11-17-2016 Update: I'm trying again after Windows fried one of my USBs. Turns out you need two: one for the install iso and one to install on. Oops. RE: [Arch] Install on USB? - d0ntjump - 11-17-2016 I've done this with Kali and other distros. Do yourself a favor and take your ssd/hardrive out of your machine to eliminate any confusion with partitioning. Run the installation like normal and then just choose the USB for the installation. It will work like any other mass storage device. I do this all the time with SD cards too. Hope this helped. I just keep a rule of thumb to never fuck with /dev/sda unless I'm in a virtual machine, it hasn't failed me so far. [emoji12] USBInstaller creates an installation image on the target drive - it doesn't install a persistent instance of Linux, which is the purpose of this thread. Either way, this was resolved about a month ago.
